The canonical presentation of the prophets (whether in Hebrew or Greek form matters little) assured that a certain conceptuality was capable of functioning, whereby figural reading of the Bible was not eclipsed and yet neither was it overly scripted. Once the canonical presentation faced a reappraisal, however, at first modest and then more radical, the clutch was released on a major discussion about just what history was and how a religiously significant account of history and Israel’s prophets
